The Beginning

  • The term "Suburb" has been used since the early 19th century.
-Meaning: an area having economic ties to a nearby city, but is outside that cities' limits.
  • Movement started before the Great Depression, but was ended when economy fell.
  • After WWI and WWII citizens wanted out of the cramp cities.
  • Agents sold already built homes.
  • Federal Housing Administration(FHA)- sold homes for low-payments and low-interest.
  • Veterans Administration(VA)- Helped veterans find better lending rates and long-term mortgages.
  • FHA/VA made home the most afforable they've ever been.
